Standard for Tethered Caps Helps Companies Comply with Legal Requirements
Ensuring bottles and caps can be recycled together
In this article, Bledar is a part of a panel discussing the development of a new European standard, EN 17665, aimed at ensuring that plastic bottle caps up to three liters in size remain attached to their containers, aligning with the EU’s Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUP). Effective by July 2024, the regulation seeks to promote a circular economy by ensuring bottles and caps can be recycled together. The standard, developed over three years, provides a testing method for secure caps, supporting the packaging industry’s goal of 100% recycling by 2030 and contributing to broader environmental sustainability efforts.
